About The Role

About the job 


The Merchandising Manager, Wholesale is responsible for leading a team of merchandisers in the delivery of merchandising plans that meet business team objectives. Leading the planning, execution and review of store change through range change and store conversions. 


Reporting to the Senior Merchandising Manager the role focuses on delivery through teamwork across both the Wholesale and Convenience teams, as well as the wider space and range team and senior stakeholders across the business. The role is accountable for the delivering of plans that are right for customers, reflect market opportunities and are easy to shop and replenish. A desire for continuous improvement, removal of wasted effort and simplifying tasks underpin a role that is at the heart of the business team structure.


Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Leverage all opportunities within remit  in order to grow market share, deliver  margin, exploit  multi-channel LFL growth and deliver end of day availability improvements
  • Ensures structure and governance is followed for all activity so Business/Support Team stakeholders are aligned to the same outcome.
  • Support the Delivery of the range strategy for all convenience formats by optimising micro space to deliver the best returns.
  • Support the development of ranging principles and identify priority categories to ensure we have the right range for every customer 
  • Drive better utilisation of data and use of competitor and market insight to help spot and identify future trends, which should be reflected in our strategy
  • Demonstrates group wide thinking in all decision making and role models across the business/support teams.
  • Support with holding the business/support team to account for delivering their full part in sales, availability, stock holding improvement and waste.
  • Ensure colleagues have clear accountability and are empowered to lead their own remits and confident enough take measured risks in the pursuit of excellence.
  • Work at pace but not to the detriment of colleagues and results, encourages others to do the same.

This position follows a hybrid model with a 4.5 day working week*.


Our teams work from our vibrant head office in Bradford for three days and remotely for a day and a half, Monday to Friday.

  • Broad Merchandising experience (desired) 
  • Adept at analysing and presenting complex data
  • Leading and developing high performing teams
  • Proven in managing and delivering change
  • Knowledge and insight of Retail industry and market trends.
  • Excellent commercial awareness with a detailed understanding of all team processes and systems
  • Thorough understanding of stock flow and stock record management across grocery retail
  • Ability to influence and impact stakeholder decision making up to Director level while being flexible and resilient in light of business direction change
  • Confident, excellent communicator, able to flex style appropriately and deliver with impact.
  • Strong level of emotional intelligence and able to adapt own leadership style.
  • Proactive, data led thinking and analysis
