About The Role


We are looking for a Senior Buying Manager to join our convenience business to lead, manage and deliver company sales and margin targets by planning, developing, sourcing and negotiating competitively priced product ranges across all available channels.

The team is responsible for multiple complex categories and large budgets.

  • Identifying and all future opportunities and driving the long term strategic direction for your categories

  • Agreeing and ensuring the delivery of your team’s margin and profitability targets for their categories, for now and in the future

  • Collaboratively working with key stakeholders to resolve issues and drive the business forward.

  • Effective relationships with Marketing and Trade Planning to ensure customer moments are brought to life through trading space across the store.

  • Recruit, develop and manage a team of Buying Managers and Buyers to deliver personal goals and business targets.

  • Create a teamwork culture, to deliver the best results

  • Continuously challenge people, process and systems to ensure we deliver the best value for our customers

  • Ensure me and my Category deliver on time and in full and always lead by example

  • Leading your Buying Team,l to develop and deliver the right range at the right price into stores.

  • Have a vision for the departments buying strategy, planning a commercial product range that is in line with the company brand values, sales and margin targets.

  • Supporting your team to create strategic category plans, and then securing confidence and buy in from the Leadership Team.

  • Always consider the way we merchandise products in store and the associated impacts. and regularly visit stores to gain valuable insight from customers and colleagues.

  • Maximising profitable sales growth and developing market opportunities across multiple categories.

  • Taking ultimate responsibility for GSCOP compliance, ensuring all team members are trained on, and comply with, all GSCOP requirements and associated internal policies.

  • Leading your team to ensure that they are engaging with Finance and Trade Planning to define and manage the budgets to ensure effective use and control.

  • Taking a leadership role, and being a point of escalation in difficult negotiations, with suppliers to optimise value (including sales and margin) and operational efficiencies around product sourcing, supply, availability for the long term.

  • Developing, prioritising and executing the category strategy based on clear customer metrics in order to maximize sales and margin

About You

  • Track record as a Senior Buying Manager/Buying Manager in a similar environment

  • Managing teams 

  • A proven negotiator - ideally with Branded experience

  • Proven experience of delivering category strategies in a complex, competitive market

  • A strong customer centricity with a track record of putting the customer first

  • Ability to work at pace, in a fast and flexible environment with drive, energy and enthusiasm

  • Significant commercial understanding with an excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision making background

  • Experience of building relationships at all levels to drive commercial benefits

  • Experience of implementing and driving unified strategies in a complex business environment
