About the job 


The Product Development Specialist will implement the Brand & Trading strategy for the development of Own Brand products, ensuring that all products deliver against their benchmark and that innovation & newness reflects customer needs and is landed in the relevant categories. To ensure that all products comply with Morrisons technical & nutritional policies.


The Specialist will report into our Development Manager.


Some of your responsibilities will include:


  • Drive innovation & product development to deliver against the Own Brand & Trading strategy 

  • Ensure all new products are developed to required quality standards and land on time as part of agreed activity.  

  • Adherence to critical path

  • Ensure delivery of agreed iconic lines 

  • Monitor key trends within the market and ensure that Morrisons does not fall behind 

  • Improve nutritional content of Own Brand products – delivering robust plans for Salt, Sugar & Calorie reduction

  • Work collaboratively to ensure a total customer offer is developed across food and that duplication is removed

  • Work closely with other teams to deliver the right customer offer 

  • Support internal / external PR of Own Brand

  • Control and maintain integrity of all product documentation

  • Ensure correct supplier capability for Own Brand products


This is a hybrid role operating over a four day working week*. This role is based at our fantastic head office in Bradford. Boasting an on-site restaurant, coffee shop, convenience and sample store, prayer room, free parking and regular company-wide events and promotions. Ideally, applicants will live within a reasonable distance of our office.

  • Food Science / Technology background

  • Practical experience of Product Development gained from either retail or manufacturing organisation

  • Passion for food  

  • Creative thinking and ability to convert insight / trends into finished food products.

  • Ability to break down the cost drivers of product formulation.

  • Ability to prioritise & flex to the changing needs of the business

  • Ability to build strong internal and external relationships at all levels with the ability to influence.

  • Customer focussed with a positive attitude

  • Experience of working in fast paced environment with lots of change


*The four day working week comes with the requirement to work 11 Saturdays per year. These days are shorter (six hours in total) and are mainly used for personal development, quarterly team meetings and supporting our store and site colleagues.
