About The Role

In this role the successful candidate will support our stores and logistics sites to uphold all elements of safety and legality. The ideal candidate will live in Manchester and cover a total of 64 of our stores covering anywhere from Widnes, St Helens and Failsworth to Oswestry, Wrexham and Holyhead. 
 
The successful candidate will have specific responsibility for food safety and will work to ensure the safety of our customers and colleagues as well as legality of our Brand.
 
Working with internal and external stakeholders to meet these objectives and drive improvements in compliance, the consequences of failure could result in customer illness/death, unlimited fines, adverse publicity and serious damage to the brand.
 
Some of your responsibilities will include: 
  • Providing a food safety management service for senior retail and logistics teams, stores and logistics sites, to ensure safety is paramount
  • Proactively attend regional and site meetings to build engagement with the senior teams, to provide information and trends which identify key concerns and to offer solutions for improvement
  • Managing activity where serious safety or legality concerns have been identified and work with stores and sites to demonstrably improve standards
  • Working with stakeholders to manage EHO activity, arrange for any necessary support, disseminate information and liaise with the EHO to reach a satisfactory conclusion
  • Providing a reactive service for serious food safety issues and incidents
  • Using a partnership approach in order to coach Regional Managers, Store/Site Managers and colleagues in the required safe and legal standards/ general good practice
  • Devising and delivering safe and legal training, working in partnership with the Training Team
  • Proactively identify any training requirements and develop or support the development of new training packages as required
  • Providing cover for the regional Technical Managers and Specialists as needed

About You

We're looking for someone who has:
 
Knowledge:
  • Degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Food Technology or a closely related discipline
  • Lead Assessor Qualification
  • Recognized HACCP Qualification to at least Intermediate
  • Level In-depth knowledge and understanding of catering, retail or manufacturing and the required food safety controls
  • Knowledge and understanding of food safety legislation and its requirements
  • An appreciation of the microbiological safety and quality aspects of high risk products
  • An understanding of food safety / quality management systems
Skills:
  • Strong communication, engagement and motivational skills
  • Ability to coach to drive performance improvement
  • The ability to engage with colleagues at all levels to drive improvements
  • Ability to influence business decisions that impact on food safety and legality
  • The ability to champion the customer and retain a customer focus whilst keeping food safety at the forefront
  • Ability to identify risk and prioritise tasks
  • Tenacity to follow up and resolve issues
  • Analytical thinking Problem solving approach
Experience:
  • Post-graduate experience in a food safety role
  • Food Safety auditing experience
