About The Role

We’ve got a fantastic job for a Technical Manager, Packaging and plastics to join our Head Office in Bradford. 


Reporting to the Head of Corporate Services, delivering innovative, effective and commercially viable packaging for our customers, in the most sustainable

way. 


Responsible for leading the Morrisons packaging strategy and plastics reduction & removal - driving consistent improvement across our product ranges in store, in line with Morrisons sustainability targets. Providing technical advice, support and hands-on delivery of effective packaging solutions for each trading team and in manufacturing. Ensuring the safety, legality, quality and integrity of Own Brand product packaging.

 
This is a 12 month fixed-term contract.

Last year we launched our ‘4 day week’. The working pattern for this role is 4 days per week of 9 hours per day, based in our Bradford Head Office.


There is also a requirement to work 1 in 4 Saturdays, or 13 per year (for 6 hours) in Head Office. 


Role Responsibilities;


  • Provide commercially sensitive, objective, technical expertise and advice up to Board and Executive Committee level in order to improve or protect the business.

  • Support the successful launch of products to critical path timescales by ensuring delivery of required packaging to specified legal, safety, quality and integrity standards.

  • Develop criteria for assessment, approval and ongoing management of packaging suppliers.

  • Build effective internal working relationships across functional boundaries to secure delivery of packaging strategy.

  • Challenge packaging strategy and standards and use experience to predict and deliver a leading standard of packaging in line with Group policy.

  • Ensure packaging-related product issues are being identified in a timely manner and appropriate action plans are implemented.

  • Support the delivery of the end to end quality by liaising with Technical/Trading team members to develop effective packaging solutions and resolve performance issues.

About You

Desirable Skills and Knowledge:

  • Science Degree or equivalent

  • Postgraduate experience in relevant industry including working with suppliers

  • Ability to manage projects to safeguard / reduce risk to the business(brand risk, customer safety) and lead initiatives.

  • Extensive auditing experience in a variety of product areas.

  • Knowledge of of Retail operations desirable

  • Control of supplier approval through audit - formal audit qualification desirable

  • Ability to identify risk and manage to an acceptable level (brand risk, customer safety)

  • Checking product quality to uphold customer expectations

  • Tenacity to follow up and resolve issues

  • Customer focussed with a positive, ‘can do’ attitude
