About The Role

We’ve got an opportunity for a Health, Safety & Environment Specialist to join the team at our Colne Manufacturing site.


This is a crucial role to support the delivery of the Morrisons Manufacturing Health & Safety Strategy within our Manufacturing sites to drive Health & Safety standards and agenda.


Reporting into the Health, Safety & Environment Manager you will support our colleagues to ensure everyone’s Safety is at the forefront of everything they do, working closely with the site leadership team to drive compliance to Health & Safety, Environmental and COVID-19 standards and to ensure high colleague engagement across 1 or 2 Manufacturing Sites.


The role will also be responsible for the following:

  • You will equip all our sites to understand the sites Health & Safety requirements and the part they play in keeping themselves and each other safe
  •  Leading on COVID-19 Safe Controls, implementation and monitoring
  • Manage the sites Environmental Management System, permits, and related regulatory work
  • Support site to drive continual improvements in their safety culture and all aspects of Health & Safety, including policies, procedures and risk assessments
  • Taking appropriate action to remove, reduce and prevent risks at site
  • Ensure full compliance with all operational standards/ specifications /policy and procedures
  • Oversee the site Health & Safety Management System, risk assessments, policies, procedures, and audits
  • Drive the Health, Safety and Environment strategy formally and informally, coaching teams and colleagues
  • Provide a reactive support service for serious Health & Safety issues and incidents across the division
  • Manage contacts from authorities, working with external partners as required; Legal, Consultants etc. 
  • Lead the COVID-19 safe controls, continuously improving the site to ensure it remains a safe place for all, tackling non compliance and updating processes as required
  • Oversee accidents, incidents, dangerous occurrences, safety observations and ensure cases of occupational ill health are fully investigated using root cause analysis, and support site(s) to implement measures to prevent reoccurrence                           
  • Provides independent investigations of incidents and whistleblowers, reporting to the HSE as required

About Colne Manufacturing

 
Set on nine acres of land, our 16,700 square foot Colne site is one of Europe’s largest beef, pork and lamb processing facilities.

Here our 840 colleagues work five days a week, producing meat and raw materials for sausages, pies and more. We supply our stores and Farmers Boy with 150 products. Everything from pork shanks and beef fillets to oxtail primals and pork shoulder joints.
About You

What skills and experience do Morrisons' Health and Safety Managers need?

  • High level of knowledge of Health & Safety, Fire Safety & Environment Legislation, its requirements and implementation within manufacturing sites
  • Knowledge of Statutory Compliance requirements and obligations
  • Training out business Health & Safety, Fire Safety and Environmental ways of working
  • Proactive, engaging and the ability to influence all parts of the organisation at various levels
  • Strong ability to adapt communication style between colleagues at all levels
  • Self motivated and highly organised with a high attention to detail and good analytical skills
  • Competent with IT systems to complete audits, develop systems and generate reports
  • Experience operating in a manufacturing environment
  • Working with internal and external stakeholders ensuring Health & Safety is at the forefront
  • An industry recognised qualification such as NEBOSH Diploma, conversant with the Health & Safety at Work Act
