Buyer - Seafood (Falfish)

Falfish, a prominent seafood supplier based in Cornwall, stands as a leading name in the industry. Over two years ago, Falfish proudly became a part of the Morrisons family. As we continue to uphold our commitment to excellence, we are now seeking a packaging and seafood buyer/trader to contribute to our continued success.

You’ll  be pivotal in ensuring the procurement of superior fish, premium ingredients, and suitable packaging for our discerning partners, while adhering to our uncompromising standards of quality and sustainability and delivering value for money.

This position is based at our site in Cornwall.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct the procurement of packaging materials,relevant ingredients and consumables to support our seafood product offerings and manage stock holdings inline with business requirements.

• Engage in the strategic sourcing and purchasing of a diverse range of fish and seafood products, while maintaining consistency in supply and quality

• Engage in the strategic sales and trading of a diverse range of fish and seafood products, while maintaining consistency in supply and quality

• Cultivate and nurture strong partnerships with suppliers, fishermen, and other stakeholders.

• Monitor market trends, fish availability, and pricing fluctuations to make well-informed and prudent purchasing decisions

• Collaborate closely with the Falfish team to forecast demand and plan procurement strategies that align with business goals

• Conduct regular quality assessments of fish and seafood to ensure that only the finest selections reach our customers

• Negotiate contractual agreements and terms with suppliers, always seeking to secure favourable arrangements for the company and deliver best value to the customer

• Stay abreast of industry regulations and compliance requirements, ensuring full adherence in all aspects of procurement

• Completion of required documentation for purchases and sales.

Requirements:

• Strong negotiation skills and the ability to cultivate and maintain professional relationships with suppliers and partners

• Analytical acumen, with the capacity to analyse market trends and utilise data to inform decision-making

• Exemplary organisational and time-management skills, enabling efficient handling of multiple responsibilities

• Unwavering attention to detail and a steadfast commitment to upholding high quality and safety standards

• A genuine passion for fish and seafood, coupled with a steadfast commitment to sustainable and responsible sourcing

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, fostering effective collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders

• Flexibility and adaptability to early morning starts.

• Good computer skills

An advantage but not a requirement:

• A proven and substantial background in the fish and seafood industry, with a specific emphasis on fish trading

• Comprehensive knowledge of various fish species, their seasonal variations, and factors influencing their quality
